With traditional SEO you can check your ranking for a keyword in seconds. AI answers are different: they are generated on the fly, vary between runs and differ from one assistant to another. That doesn’t make them unmeasurable. It just needs a different approach.
Write down 20–50 questions your buyers genuinely ask, for example “best software development company for fintech apps in Sri Lanka” or “how do I get my website cited by ChatGPT?”. Mix broad category questions with specific, high-intent ones.
Once a month, run each question in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Google (to check AI Overviews). For each answer, record:
When users click a source link in an AI answer, the visit shows up in your analytics. In Google Analytics 4, look at session sources such as chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, gemini.google.com and copilot.microsoft.com. ChatGPT also adds utm_source=chatgpt.com to many of the links it shows.
This gives leadership a clear, honest view of progress and shows which pages and topics to improve next.
