Key takeaways

  • JSON-LD tells machines exactly who you are and what you offer, without guesswork.
  • Organization, Service and FAQPage are the highest-value types for most service businesses.
  • Markup must match the visible content on the page.

Structured data is a machine-readable description of your content, added to a page as a <script type="application/ld+json"> block. Search engines have used it for years, and it is equally useful for AI systems trying to work out what your business does.

The three types most businesses need

1. Organization

Describes your company: name, logo, website, contact details and profiles on other platforms (sameAs). This is the foundation of your brand entity.

Organization
{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "Organization",
  "name": "Ceyentra Technologies",
  "url": "https://ceyentra.com",
  "logo": "https://ceyentra.com/assets/img/logo/Ceyentra-icon.png",
  "sameAs": [
    "https://www.linkedin.com/company/ceyentra",
    "https://clutch.co/profile/ceyentra-technologies"
  ]
}

2. Service

Describes an individual service you offer, who provides it and where. Add one to each service page.

Service
{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "Service",
  "name": "Generative Engine Optimization",
  "provider": { "@type": "Organization", "name": "Ceyentra Technologies" },
  "areaServed": "Worldwide",
  "description": "Get your brand found and cited in AI answer engines."
}

3. FAQPage

Marks up question-and-answer content. Google limited FAQ rich results in search listings in 2023, but the markup is still a clean, explicit way to tell machines which questions a page answers.

FAQPage
{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "FAQPage",
  "mainEntity": [{
    "@type": "Question",
    "name": "What is Generative Engine Optimization?",
    "acceptedAnswer": {
      "@type": "Answer",
      "text": "GEO is the practice of optimizing a website so AI engines can understand, trust and cite it."
    }
  }]
}

Rules that keep your markup trustworthy

  • Match the page. Only mark up content that visitors can actually see.
  • Stay consistent. Use the same company name, URL and logo everywhere.
  • Validate. Test with Google’s Rich Results Test and the Schema.org validator.
  • Keep it current. Update markup when services, prices or FAQs change.
